Conference Venue

The 175 year-old University of Toronto’s St. George Campus, is an “oasis” in the heart of downtown Toronto. It is the historical centrepiece of Canada's leading research university.  Its rich architectural heritage is a magnet for visitors to Toronto and serves as the backdrop for an internationally recognized academic community. The University of Toronto offers a full range of facilities and services for conference attendees.

The U of T is only steps to a diverse range of restaurants, great shopping, many theatres, unique nightlife, and the major sights of the city.  The peaceful campus combines historic architecture, modern structures, and inviting green spaces. The many tree-lined walking paths, quiet quads, and open areas offer a spot for contemplation in the midst of the big city.

89 Chestnut Conference Centre

89 Chestnut is a University of Toronto residence with the look and feel of a hotel.  Originally a hotel, 89 Chestnut was purchased by the University of Toronto and turned into a residence and conference centre.  It is located in the heart of downtown, adjacent to Toronto’s visually-famous City Hall and Nathan Phillip’s Square.  It is within steps of the shopping and entertainment districts and is right on public transit.  And the Airport Shuttle stops right at the front door.  It could not be any more convenient.  You can get anywhere in the city from 89 Chestnut easily and quickly.

Parking:

The underground parking garage at 89 Chestnut is attended 24 hours a day and is security patrolled on a regular basis.

Directions:the parking garage entrance is located at the north west corner of the building on the east side of Chestnut Street.  See above for directions and a map.

Daily Parking Rates:
Early Bird:        Arrive before 9am and depart before 7pm for a set fee of $9.50
Hourly Parking:             $3.00 per half hour to a daytime maximum of $18.00 up to 7pm
Overnight parking:        $23.00 for a full 24 hour period
Evening Parking:           Arrive after 6pm and depart before 2am for a set fee of $7.00

  • Visiting the museums & galleries including the Royal Ontario Museum, Art Gallery of Ontario, Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Arts, Bata Shoe Museum and many more

  • Taking in a world class theatre production or sports event
  • Visiting the historic Distillery District to stroll, visit galleries or enjoy dinner

  • Taking the ferry to Toronto Islands

  • Niagara Falls(90 minutes from Toronto), a natural Wonder of the World (join our CAP tour on Sunday, June 6th to Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake and a premier Niagara winery)
  • Niagara Wine Region (90 minutes from Toronto), known for it’s famous ice wine
  • Niagara-on-the-Lake (90 minutes from Toronto), with it’s quaint and historic charm - home to the internationally renowned Shaw Theatre Festival
  • Shakespeare Festival (90 minutes from Toronto) in Stratford, Ontario is also always a delight.  
  • Small town Ontario – visit quaint towns such as Elora, Paris, Fergus (approx. 60 minutes from Toronto) and many more
  • St. Jacob’s Farmers’ Market (approx. 60 minutes from Toronto), one of the oldest in Canada, featuring field-fresh vegetables and traditional Mennonite quilts, handicrafts and homemade goods

Airport Transportation

Airport Bus Service

The Airport Express services all three terminals and major hotels in the downtown core including the Delta Chelsea and 89 Chestnut Residence.  For a full list of pick-up and drop-off points visit their web site.

This service operates every 20 to 30 minutes:
From the airport to downtown between 5:00am and 12:55am
From downtown to the airport between 4:00am and 11:45pm

Allow one hour for transit time.  Tickets may be purchased online or at the airport, hotel, or bus depot.  Adult fares are:
- One way booked online                             CD$17.95
- One way booked in person                        CD$19.95
- Return booked online                                 CD$29.65
- Return booked in person                           CD$32.95

Limousines and Taxis

Limousines and taxis are readily available at all three terminals at the airport.  The flat fare for limousines is $54.00 and for taxis is CD$49.00 (including tax but not gratuity) from the airport to downtown hotels.  Allow 30 minutes transit time.  Payment is accepted by major credit cards or Canadian dollars cash.

Public Transit

People who live in and around Toronto use their transit system extensively.  We have the second highest ridership in the U.S. and Canada, after New York City. The transit system is fast, convenient and clean.

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) operates bus, streetcar, sub-way and light rapid transit routes inside the city.   Cash fares are accepted on all transit.  Tickets or passes may be purchased at subway stations and some shops.  Fares are currently:
